BIOTROP Conducted a Charity Bazaar, Blood Donation, Talk Show, Mass Circumcision and Seminar - 291 time(s) visited

In relation to the 41st Anniversary celebration of SEAMEO BIOTROP, a Charity Bazaar, Blood Donation, Mass Circumcision and Seminar were carried out.

The charity bazaar was held on 19 February 2009 at BIOTROP compound. There are 17 participants (BIOTROP staff/outsiders/companies) who displayed their products.  The visitors were BIOTROP staff and the community living near BIOTROP. On the same day Blood Donation was carried out at dormitory A of SEAMEO BIOTROP.  Thirty-one voluntary donors have their blood drawn with the assistance of medical team from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

In addition, also on the same day, Radio Megaswara Bogor broadcasted a Talk Show with the aim to socialize BIOTROP activities to the community. Matters such as BIOTROP programs, vision, mission, goals and future plan were presented. During the Talk Show, Dr. Bambang Purwantara, BIOTROP Director was accompanied by Dr. Supriyanto, Researcher and Chairman of the organizing Committee for the 41st Anniversary celebration, Mr. Slamet Widodo Sugiarto, Marketing and Training Manager of BTIC BIOTROP and also Mr. Iwan Setiawan, Head of Information Resource Unit of BIOTROP.  This event was covered and aired by Radio Megaswara 100.8 FM.

The mass circumcision held on 20 February 2009. Twenty-three children were circumcised by a medical team from Community Health Center of Health Agency, Bogor. In his statement Dr. Bambang Purwantara, BIOTROP Director said that the mass circumcision activity held on 20 February 2009 is a proof of social awareness of the institution to the community living around BIOTROP compound and also to BIOTROP staff and their families.

Finally on 23 February 2009, a seminar on Indonesian Inland Waters was delivered  by Dr. Pasi Lehmusluoto of University Helsinki,  Finlandia.  Problems such as issues of lake management and pollution control in Indonesia;  water resources and climate change issues; Indonesian lakes;  and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) were discussed.
