Abstract :

School of Human is inclusive school where special needs students learn together with regular students. Raised bed garden is a method of gardening that uses land bounded bricks, wooden planks or other material that can hold the soil. This method has been chosen for this project because of the area in the school consists of a pile of rubble thus infertile if planted directly.

Special needs children generally have a high touch sensitivity. They would be very uncomfortable with dirty things like holding the soil, holding the worms and compost. Special needs students tend to like fast food or processed foods. However, with this project, they are expected to grow their own vegetables in the school garden, and eventually they want to eat vegetables that they grow so they get adequate nutrition. In addition, special needs students have social barriers, there are some students who have difficulty communicating and cooperating with friends. With gardening, can train students to be responsible and collaborate with their friends.

From the results of the initial observation, the inclusion of 12 students who follow extracurricular gardening, there are seven students who like to eat vegetables and always eat vegetables every day, while others do not like vegetables and do not eat vegetables every day. With a raised bed garden model, students were divided into 4 groups, each group consisting of 3 students and 2 buddies with one plot of raised bed. During the project, students have shown a sense of responsibility and cooperation with a group of their friends. Students also like to eat vegetables, especially vegetables that they grow and cook. So that the balance nutrition can be fulfilled.
