Abstract:
Jatropha fruit hulls (JFH) is potential material for using as raw material in particleboard manufacturing. Limitations of the baseline data about characteristics and indicators of JFH caused of these research was conducted. These research comprised of JFH material analysis and urea formaldehyde (UF) resin analysis. JFH analysis included of acidity, chemical component, chemical compound, and wettability. Furthermore, UF resin analysis included of resin solid content, viscosity, and gelatine time. The result showed that JFH had alkali properties (pH 10.2). Cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content of JFH were 48.61, 7.99 and 21.5, respectively. JFH composed of the biggest compounds that caused of alkali property such as ammonium bicarbonate, mercaptomethane, guaiacol, 2.6-dimethoxyphenol and cyclopropyl carbinol. The alkaline of JFH caused the increase of wettability and gelatine time. Extractive, acidity, wettability, and gelatine time were several indicator to determine of bonding quality the particleboard. Keywords: Characterization Jatrophe fruit hulls, and urea formaldehyde resin
