Essential Oil-based Products

Indonesia, as a tropical region, is a place where around 40 species of essential oil producing plants grow.  From that amount, only parts of it is commercially cultivated, including patchouli and lemongrass. Whereas, essential oils have high economic value and are needed by the food flavors & essence, health, beauty and perfume industries.

SEAMEO BIOTROP through its Natural Products Laboratory has developed the cultivation and refining of commercial essential oils from various types of plants, such as citronella, patchouli, fragrant root, cinnamon, citrus, ginger, agarwood, Ylang-Ylang, magnolia and others. The Center also develops essential oil-based products, such as natural soap and natural perfumes.
