SEAMEO BIOTROP Inks Memorandum of Understanding with Bina Nusantara University (BINUS)

To increase the role of tropical biology in food security through the implementation of appropriate technology, SEAMEO BIOTROP inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Faculty of Engineering, Bina Nusantara University (BINUS), virtually. This MoU represents SEAMEO BIOTROP’s commitment to take action on its second program thursts i.e., Sustainable Management of Intensively Used Ecosystems/Landscapes.

In his remarks, Dr Zulhamsyah Imran, the Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP expressed his expectations to integrate tropical biology and technology with this collaboration with BINUS. Several proposals might be discussed, such as renewable energy, green food technology, green manufacturing, bionergy, post harvest technology for agricultural products, collaborative research and internship programs.

Dr Ir John Fredy Bobby Saragih, MSi, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, BINUS explained that BINUS has been advancing a technology for controlling plant growh by using sensors generated by computer application as well as Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence technologies. Furthermore, he explained that BINUS has a grant program to develop technologies for solar panel, post harvest, fruit and vegetable plants development, and essential oil distillation tehnologies.

This collaboration is initiated by Dr Aslan, SEAMEO BIOTROP Research Department Manager and Religiana Hendarti, PhD, the Head of Internationalization and Partnership Program, Faculty of Engineering, BINUS.
