SEAMEO BIOTROP Research Assistant Participates in Spring Meeting of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science

A SEAMEO BIOTROP research assistant, Ms Shella Marlinda, SPi, MSi participated in an online Spring Meeting with a theme “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Fisheries Sciences” held by the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science on 26-29 March 2021. The Spring Meeting aimed to initiate research collaborations among SEAMEO BIOTROP and other participants of the meeting.

On this occasion, Ms Shella presented a paper titled “The Use of Watermelon Rind as Functional Feed Ingredient for Redclaw Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus)”. The paper is among results of SEAMEO BIOTROP fisheries research conducted by a team consisted of Dr Ichsan Achmad Fauzi, Ms Shella Marlinda, MSi, Dr Muhammad Agus Suprayudi, Dr Zulhamsyah Imran and Mr Yana. The aim of this research is to evaluate feed containing watermelon pulp in increasing the availability of arginine and growth performance of redclaw crayfish, Cherax quadricarinatus.

The Spring Meeting was particpated by 200 participants consisted of lecturers, researchers and associates of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Sciences, both members and non-members, as well as representatives from the American Fisheries Society (AFS), the Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI), the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science (KOSFAS), and the China Society of Fisheries (CSF).
