BIOTROP became the venue for an Ornamental Bird Contest with the theme "Promoting Sustainable Utilization of Songbird" on 29 October 2017.

This contest was a collaboration among BIOTROP, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB/Bogor Agricultural University) and Paguyuban Penggemar Burung Kenari/Association of Canary Bird Owners (PAPBURI) - Klaten Chapter JaBoDeTaBek.

More than 500 bird breeders, observers of bird conservation and related communities engaged in biodiversity conservation of ornamental birds and song bird special chirping contest attended the activity.

The contest was officially opened by SEAMEO BIOTROP Director Dr Irdika Mansur. He said that this event was held as one of bird conservation efforts to increase bird population in nature as well as to serve nature-related hobbies and bird trading development purposes.

Bird breeding in Indonesia is well developed as a source of income. In practice, however, Indonesian bird breeding and utilization still face various problems related to regulations. Through this activity, Dr Irdika expected deeper discussion to solve several issues on bird conservation.
