BIOTROP Researchers Attend 24th APWSS Conference as Paper Presenters and Plenary Speaker

Four BIOTROP papers were among those presented during the 24th Asia Pacific Weed Science Society (APWSS) Conference held on 22-25 October 2013 in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia.

The papers were as follows:

1. Building Capacities in Weed and Invasive Alien Plant Species Control and
Management in Southeast Asia: The SEAMEO BIOTROP Experience
by Sri S. Tjitrosoedirdjo and JessC. Fernandez

2. Chemical Control of Acacia nilotica under Medium Density Regime Populations and Broadleaved weeds at Baluran National Park, East Java, Indonesia
by SoekismanTjitrosoedirdjo, Mawardi , Setiabudi, Syaiful Bachri and Sri S.Tjitrosoedirdjo

3. Observations on the Development of Important Weeds and Invasive Alien Plant  Species in Indonesia
by Indah Wahyuni and Sri S. Tjitrosoedirdjo

4. Invasion of Acacia nilotica at Baluran National Park, East Java, Indonesia
by Setiabudi, S. Tjitrosoedirdjo, Sri S. Tjitrosoedirdjo, Imama Mawardi and Saiful Bachri

On the other hand, Dr. Soekisman Tjitrosoedirdjo was invited as one of the 8 plenary speakers for his paper on “Weed Risk Assessment in Southeast Asia: A Review”.

Organized by Pajajaran University and the Indonesian Weed Science Society, the Conference focused on “The role of weed science in supporting food security by 2020” as its theme.  At the opening program, Prof. Dr. Steve Adkins, President of APWSS, delivered his keynote paper on “Some Present Problems and Future Approaches to Weed Management in the Asia Pacific Region: Supporting Food and Environment Security by 2020”.

The conference was attended by 250 participants from 15 countries.  (SS)
