Increasing Visibility, SEAMEO BIOTROP Initiates Cooperation with Mindanao State University (MSU) Philippines

In order to increase visibility and strengthen cooperation at the national, regional and international levels, SEAMEO held an Orientation Webinar between SEAMEO BIOTROP and Mindanao State University (MSU) with the theme “Strengthening Collaborative Ties Between BIOTROP and MSU and Increasing Regional Visibility: What BIOTROP and MSU Can Both Do Together” on Tuesday 19 October 2021 online via Zoom. This webinar aims to increase cooperation between BIOTROP and MSU by increasing visibility through training, publications, research and development of tissue culture technology.

This webinar activity was officially opened by Dr. Zulhamsyah Imran, Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP. In his speech Dr. Zulhamsyah Imran stated that he wanted to increase the visibility of SEAMEO BIOTROP by opening up all opportunities that could occur in this digitalization era. In this digitalization era, we cannot be separated from three major disruptions, namely digital disruption, the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change. We need adjustment to adapt to these three disruptions. “Because of these challenges, SEAMEO BIOTROP has re formulated its new vision to become a reputable center for saving biodiversity from mountains to oceans by 2050.” he stated. "Now we have changed our vision, mission, flagship program, and strategic program to deal with dynamic changes, threats, and opportunities in the national, regional and international region," he added.

This webinar activity is divided into 2 sessions, the first session is the main room session presents resource persons from SEMAEO BIOTROP.  Then resource persons and topics presented in this session were: 1. Ir. Sri Widayanti, M.Si (Research); 2. Dewi Suryani, MM (Training and Other Learning Activities); 3. Dr. Erina Sulistiani (Manufacturing Products); 4. Rima Febriana, SE (Publication and Dissemination Information).

At the second session devided into three breakout rooms. The resource persons at the breakout room 1 included: 1. Dr. Erina Sulistiani (Tissue Culture on Agriculture Plant, Ornamental Plant and Seaweed); 2. Dr. Ulfah J Siregar (Biotechnology for Tropical Agriculture and Forest Products); 3. Risa Rosita, M.Si (Restoration Ex-Coal Mining Using Phytoremediation). At the breakout room 2, there are 4 speakers, they are: 1. Dr. Soekisman Tjitrosemito, M.Sc (The New Concept of Weed and Their Management); 2. Indah Wahyuni, M.Si (Herbarium SEAMEO BIOTROP); 3. Ir. Ina Retnowati (Spoiloage Fungi and Mycotoxin in Foodstuff); 4. Dr. Idham Sakti Harahap (Stored Product Pest Management). And the last at the breakoutroom 3, there are also 4 speakers: 1. Dr. Supriyanto (Indonesian Essential Oils); 2. Harry Imantho, M.Sc (Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System to Support Precision Agriculture Practicies); 3. Dr. Ayi Rahmat (Production, Development of Organic Liquid Fertilizer, Hybrid Solar System and IOT for Hydroponic System); 4. Shella Marlinda, M.Si (Development Cultivation of Crayfish, Ornamental Fish, Aquaponic, and Fish Feed Production).

This webinar was attended by 102 participants consisting of researchers, lecturers, and associate professors from MSU, BIOTROP, and IPB University. (day).
