Saturday, June 8, 2024. SEAMEO BIOTROP, in collaboration with DPP HA IPB and DHA IPB, hosted a Mentoring Diaspora event, one of its sub-activities being the Diaspora Talk. The Diaspora Talk event has reached its eighth series, with this series themed "Reaching Dreams in Taiwan, Korea, and China." The event was held in a hybrid format from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIB due to the speakers being located in China, Korea, and Taiwan. The event was attended by 107 participants via the Zoom platform, the majority being undergraduate students aspiring to pursue their master's education abroad.
The event began with an opening by the MC, Andini, an IPB University Ambassador, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya." This was followed by a welcoming speech from Prof. Iskandar, Vice Rector IV for Global Connectivity, Cooperation, and Alumni, represented by Mr. Sukma Kamajaya, MM, the Director of Alumni Relations at IPB University. He expressed hope that the collaboration between SEAMEO BIOTROP, DPP HA IPB, and DHA IPB would nurture young people capable of achieving success on an international stage.
In his remarks, Walneg S Jas, the Chairman of DPP HA IPB, expressed hope that the Diaspora Talk event would strengthen students and serve as a bridge for planning future studies through motivation and sharing from alumni. Dr. Zulhamsyah Imran, Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP, hoped that this program would serve as a platform for learning culture and collaboration both nationally and internationally. He emphasized that going abroad should not only be about achieving personal dreams but also about realizing Indonesia's aspirations to make an impact on the international stage. SEAMEO BIOTROP is committed to supporting research activities and the dissemination of information in the field of tropical biology, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture, with a home base at IPB to support the development of more competitive human resources in the future, he added.
The speakers for the eighth Diaspora Talk were Dr. Surinah from Xiamen University, Byantara D Purusatama, PhD from Kangwon National University, and Puspa J Puspita from Chang Gung University, who shared their experiences with all participants in a session moderated by RM Muhammada Nur Fauzan from the University of Tsukuba. After the sharing session, a quiz and Q&A session were conducted interactively and engagingly, extending the event from the initially planned 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It is hoped that the Diaspora Talk will continue to serve as a bridge for students to pursue their dreams of studying abroad. (as)
