SEAMEO BIOTROP Participates in the 7th SEAMEO Centre Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit 2024 in Brunei Darussalam

Two SEAMEO BIOTROP delegations, Risa Rosita, M.Si and Ir. Sri Widayanti, M.Si. presented the results of the studies of the Biodiversity Clinic (BIONIC) online Platform for Sustainability of Tropical Biodiversity at the SEAMEO Centers Policy Research Network (CPRN) 2024 Summit organized by SEAMEO VOCTECH. The event takes place in Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB), Brunei Darussalam on 22 – 25 April 2024.

"Embracing Inclusivity in Education, Science, and Culture" is the theme of the 7th SEAMEO Centers' Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit in 2024. On the three-day summit, features a plethora of policy paper submissions that demonstrate the participants' commitment to furthering these fields of study. In the opening ceremony, Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim as SEAMEO Secretariat’s Director stated “Under the theme Embracing Inclusivity in Education, Science and Culture Towards a Future-Ready Southeast Asia, we embark on a journey to delve deeper into the challenges and opportunities that define our times. The theme reflects our collective aspiration to promote diversity and address disparities in education within Southeast Asia. It explores strategies to ensure that every individual, regardless of socio-economic background, ethnicity, gender, or disability, has access to quality education”.

SEAMEO BIOTROP's delegates present the result of studies conducted on the development of the Biodiversity Clinic (BIONIC) online Platform for the Sustainability of Tropical Biodiversity. This study aims to create an innovation and technology to disseminate information quickly and easily regarding biodiversity loss and climate change issues.

Ms Risa Rosita, Coordinator of the Biodiversity Clinic study, reported that based on the KAP (Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice) results from a survey of 56 respondents, it was stated that the value of KAP related to the five variables was less than 35,71%. In general, 98% of respondents agreed with the BIONIC creation. In preparing the design of BIONIC, SEAMEO BIOTROP collaborated with 196 people from Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Ms Sri Widayanti hopes BIONIC's role as a provider of informative services regarding biodiversity issues can be a success factor in increasing biodiversity recovery without having to spend enormous costs whenever all stakeholders can carry out online consultations with experts.
