BIOTROP`s Acting DDRM appointed

Dr. Arief SabdoBIOTROP welcomes Dr. Arief Sabdo Yuwono as Acting Deputy Director for Resources Management for a three-year term effective March 2015. 

Dr. Arief is a lecturer and Division Head of Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of Institut Pertanian Bogor  (IPB/Bogor Agricultural University), Indonesia. He also serves as Head of Research Group on Air Quality and Climate Change of IPB's Center for Environmental Research. He brings to BIOTROP an extensive experience in environmental engineering and environmental impact assessment.

He is a member of the Indonesian Society of Agricultural Engineering since 1989; Indonesian Society of Physics since 2002; Indonesian Society of Environmental Engineering and Sanitation since 2008 and was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2009-2013.

Dr. Arief had conducted numerous researches on the development of instrument and measurement system of various environmental and agricultural engineering sciences. He also authored and co-authored 58 articles in various reputable local and international journals as well as monographs and technical publications from 2001 until 2014. He received a number of awards which all attest to his exemplary work in research and teaching. Among these are being included in the 104 and 106 Innovation Indonesia in 2013 (i.e., Wireless detection system for nitrogen gas based on photonic crystal sensor and Beer Lambert Effect) and 2014 (i.e., Dustfall Canister for Ambient Air Quality Monitoring), respectively; The First Best Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering and Technology Faculty, 2014; and The Best Researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2014.

Dr. Arief holds a Doctorate degree from Institut für Landtechnik, University of Bonn, Germany. In 1992, he received a scholarship from The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) for a course in Environmental Control Engineering in Agriculture at the University of Tokyo and University of Kochi, Japan. From 1994 to 1996, he was granted a scholarship from Belgian Administration for Development and Co-operation (ABOS) to complete his M.Sc. in Environmental Sanitation at the University of Gent, Belgium. His fields of specialization include environmental sanitation technique, management of air quality and noise, bioenvironmental technique and waste management technology.

He had patented his three inventions, namely: (1) Opacity Meter: Smoke Density Meter; (2) Dustfall Canister for Ambient Air Quality Monitoring; and (3) Wireless detection system for nitrogen dioxide gas based on photonic crystal sensor and Beer Lambert Effect.

Dr. Arief succeeded Dr. Irdika Mansur, who was appointed as BIOTROP Director effective 1 January 2015 after six years of being at the same post.
