"Knowledge management (KM) is a discipline that promotes an integrated
approach to identifying, capturing, evaluating, retrieving, and sharing
all of an enterprise's information assets. These assets may include
databases, documents, policies, procedures, and previously un-captured
expertise and experience in individual workers."

In organizing the Knowledge Management (KM) within the SEAMEO Centers, the first SEAMEO Training Workshop on Knowledge Management was held on 24-26 January 2012 in Los Banos, Philippines as part of SEAMEO’s initiatives under the SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2011-2021. The aim was to enable SEAMEO Centers to arrive at a common understanding of Knowledge Management, establish a suitable framework and strategy of Knowledge Management and plan the follow-up actions to operate the framework and strategy. Many SEAMEO Regional Centers has established Knowledge Management units/departments in their respective organizations which are responsible for the information management system, communication, learning events and partnership/business development.
As the world changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Knowledge Management has also changed into a more global operation. In line with the changes, SEAMEO draws up the new SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-2030 which embraces the complex context of human resource development in education, science and culture providing a more global platform to accommodate the global education landscape and information exchange. The current Knowledge Management is now transforming its ways of work into an online platform. E-marketing promotional tools and social media become powerful tools to effectively reach out to various layers of audiences, stakeholders and partners in Southeast Asia and beyond.
In socializing and enhancing the capacity of Knowledge Management departments/units within the SEAMEO family in the New Normal Era and beyond, the SEAMEO Secretariat organized a virtual SEAMEO Knowledge Management Learning and Sharing Forum on 7 July 2022. The forum was held to share best practices in operating the Knowledge Management strategies to come up with strategies that enable the harmonious and logical flow of information among SEAMEO Centers and the SEAMEO Secretariat.
The forum was participated by 100 participants from all SEAMEO Centers. Mr. Haritz Cahya Nugraha, MT and Ms. Sri Ismawati Soerianegara, MSc from SEAMEO BIOTROP actively participated in the forum as a speaker and a participant, respectively.
The forum came up with several initiatives on networking and group communications for activities related to Knowledge Management to strengthen the knowledge management capacity of SEAMEO Centers including functions, work processes and database development. (sis).
